GOLDEN CUSTOMER SERVICE RULES

If you are losing customers or fear that you might lose them, here are some advises on things to avoid doing, and other golden rules that would help you to keep customers.

Surveys conducted on various shoppers indicate that consumers are sick and tired of receiving poor service. A survey showed that 75% would hang up after waiting on hold for more than five minutes, and 75% said that they tell their friends and family about their negative experiences, while 85% reported that negative customer service drive them to switch providers.

With statistics like this, it's pretty obvious that anyone having direct contact with customers should be trained on how to bathe their patrons with good service and an attitude of appreciation.

According to a research appearing in the California Management Review, treating customers "adequately" is not enough to keep them anymore. Amazingly, satisfied customers will return to do business with you 28 percent of the time, but delighted customers will return 85 percent of the time. That's HUGE. With those kinds of statistics it only makes sense to provide outstanding customer service!

To help you provide outstanding service to your customers, here are five golden rules that can be adapted to any organization to help improve customer service.

  1. Learn the names of your customers and use their name when talking to them.
  2. Be cheerful. Tell your customers that you are happy to see them and thank them for their business.
  3. Exceed expectations. Personalize your service. Instead of promising more than you can give, give more than you promise. Deliver a "wow" customer experience.
  4. Provide a quick service, as today’s world is progressing in a rapid pace and people don’t have time to waste. Be there to serve the customers whenever they need you to be there.
  5. Resolve conflicts and solve problems. When a problem arises, don’t deny it cooperate with the customer to find a solution and take on the burden to find a resolution regardless of fault.
  6. Handle complaints. Complaints usually have some validity and can be an “early warning system” of conflict on the horizon. When you view complaints this way, they can become your ally, helping you resolve problems and minimize their impact.
  7. Compensate for confusion and mistakes, as this helps the customer to “forgive and forget” any bad experience he had.
