Our partners, a leading holding company in the steel industry, manage multiple subsidiaries across Africa, specialising in manufacturing, processing, and distribution. They are currently seeking a high-potential Deputy General Manager to take on a challenging regional role designed for experienced professionals who are ready to expand their impact beyond their current functional responsibilities and progress toward broader business leadership.

The role offers hands-on exposure to real business challenges across different operations and markets, combining strategic projects, operational responsibilities, cross-functional collaboration, executive mentoring, and international exposure. The successful candidate will progressively assume broader responsibilities and develop the capabilities required to take on senior general management positions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead high-impact business, operational, and transformation initiatives.
  • Manage strategic projects that directly contribute to business performance, efficiency, and growth.
  • Take ownership of assigned business challenges and deliver measurable results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, country operations, and senior leadership.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to different manufacturing operations and business environments across Africa.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiency, productivity, quality, cost effectiveness, and overall business performance.
  • Analyse complex operational, commercial, and organisational challenges and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Participate in cross-country assignments and contribute to key business priorities across different markets.
  • Work alongside experienced leaders and participate in executive mentoring and coaching.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across functions, countries, and leadership teams.
  • Apply learning from each assignment to progressively assume broader leadership and business responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, accountability, adaptability, and a results-oriented approach throughout the assignment.
Qualifications
  • 9–15 years of progressive professional experience in steel manufacturing or a related process industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech./B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience leading teams, projects, operations, or significant business initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational challenges and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Strong leadership potential, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across functions and levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and diverse business environments.
  • High adaptability, resilience, and willingness to take on challenging assignments.
  • Strong commercial and business acumen, with an interest in developing broader enterprise-level leadership capabilities.
  • Willingness to relocate across Africa for business assignments.
