Our client is a holding company in the steel industry since 2006, operates multiple subsidiaries across Africa specializing in manufacturing, processing and distribution. With offices in 9 countries (Rwanda, Benin, Ghana, Congo, Mali, …), the company has 6,000 employees. They are currently seeking a Head of Finance to lead its financial operations and strategy. This role focuses on financial planning, cash flow management, banking relationships, and business partnering to support sustainable growth and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead the annual budgeting process, including preparation, consolidation, and presentation to senior management at both unit and group levels.
- Develop and maintain rolling forecasts and financial models to support strategic decision-making.
- Provide detailed analysis on financial performance, variances, and key business drivers.
- Partner with business units to align financial planning with overall organizational objectives.
- Manage and oversee cash flow planning, ensuring optimal liquidity and financial stability.
- Monitor working capital (receivables, payables, inventory) and optimize cash utilization.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce funding costs and improve treasury efficiency.
- Maintain strong relationships with banks and financial institutions, acting as the main point of contact.
- Lead negotiations for credit facilities, loans, and banking arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with banking covenants and reporting requirements.
- Manage relationships with auditors, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Allocate responsibilities effectively while ensuring accountability and delivery.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance function.
- Oversee accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with applicable standards.
- Strengthen internal controls and ensure adherence to company policies.
- Support and manage audit processes, ensuring timely resolution of findings.
- Ensure compliance with tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a strategic advisor to management, providing financial insights to support decision-making.
- Evaluate business opportunities, investments, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Support operational teams with data-driven financial guidance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional certification required (CPA, CMA, CA, or equivalent).
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in finance, including 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cash flow management, and banking relationships.
- Proven track record of leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and internal controls.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP is a must) and financial modeling tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and business acumen.
