Our client, a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Contractor, is looking for a Senior Planning & QA/QC Engineer to join their engineering team in Lagos, Nigeria, to oversee project planning, quantity take-offs, material usage control, productivity tracking, and cost management across piling and foundation projects. The role ensures optimal resource utilization, on-time delivery, and adherence to approved budgets.

Responsibilities

1. Quantity Estimation and Material Control

  • Compute quantities for reinforcement steel, permanent and temporary casing, concrete, bentonite/polymer, and other piling materials.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for both tendering and execution phases.
  • Cross-check executed site quantities against design drawings and BOQs.
  • Track material consumption and highlight any excess or waste.
  • Maintain material balance records and forecast remaining quantities.
  • Generate monthly reports on material usage.

2. Planning and Scheduling

  • Develop baseline project schedules for piling and foundation works.
  • Create detailed execution plans for rigs, cranes, pumps, and support equipment.
  • Define production and output targets per project/site.
  • Compare actual progress against planned timelines.
  • Identify delays and recommend corrective or recovery actions.
  • Coordinate allocation of equipment and workforce across projects.

3. Cost Control

  • Establish project budgets and monitor ongoing expenditures.
  • Evaluate differences between planned and actual costs.
  • Track productivity levels of labor and machinery.
  • Monitor key cost drivers including fuel, maintenance, steel, concrete, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare cost forecasts and estimate final project costs.
  • Identify areas for cost savings and operational efficiency.

4. Project Monitoring and Reporting

  • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
  • Track KPIs such as:
  • Cost per linear meter of pile
  • Concrete usage per pile
  • Reinforcement usage per pile
  • Rig productivity
  • Equipment utilization
  • Report project performance and progress to management.

5. Tendering and Budget Preparation

  • Support preparation of technical and commercial bids.
  • Develop schedules with allocated resources.
  • Estimate material quantities and overall project costs.
  • Assist in pricing strategies and margin analysis.

6. Resource Management

  • Forecast requirements for steel, concrete, casing, and consumables.
  • Liaise with procurement and logistics teams.
  • Optimize usage of piling rigs and related equipment across projects.
  • Monitor equipment efficiency and downtime.

7. Documentation and Systems

  • Maintain up-to-date planning and cost control records.
  • Regularly update BOQs, schedules, and progress/cost reports.
  • Ensure proper documentation and data accuracy for reporting and review.

Software Skills

  • Microsoft Project
  • Primavera P6
  • Microsoft Excel (Advanced)
  • AutoCAD
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of experience in piling, foundation, geotechnical, or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Reinforced concrete quantities and design
  • Piling construction techniques
  • Cost control methodologies
  • Planning and scheduling practices
