Our partners, a leading holding company in the steel industry, it manages multiple subsidiaries across Africa specializing in manufacturing, processing, and distribution. They are currently hiring a Deputy General Manager for their offices in DRC. Committed to sustainability, the company transforms scrap metal into high-quality construction materials, supporting infrastructure growth.

Seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Deputy General Manager with expertise in marketing and branding, HR and labor relations at the factory level, and operational excellence in procurement and logistics of New projects to support the General Manager in managing operations across the organization. The ideal candidate will have expertise in financial management, operational planning, and leadership preferably within the steel industry. The DGM will play a key role in ensuring operational eGiciency, driving profitability, and supporting strategic initiatives while maintaining alignment with the company’s financial goals. This role requires a strategic thinker who can align operational goals with business objectives while fostering a high-performance culture. The role of the DGM is expected to lead and manage all plant operations and is responsible for oversight of the government relations and corporate aGairs, administration, scrap procurement, operations including scrap processing and logistics, production, plant maintenance, projects, HSE and stores, security, sales and marketing, people and culture and finance functions in the plant. 

Responsibilities
  • Financial Management and Strategic Planning
    • Oversee financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
    • Analyze financial reports and performance indicators to support business decisions.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve profitability and manage margins.
    • Ensure compliance with local financial regulations and international standards.
    • Manage financial risk and implement cost control measures across departments.
    • Develop the country’s strategic plan and review annually to ensure relevance
    • Partner with department heads to create organizational plan to achieve business goals
    • Periodically review team’s progress and share an update with management 
  • Production and Operational Excellence
    • Collaborate with the MD and production teams to align financial and operational goals.
    • Oversee plant operations, ensuring efficiency in production and maintenance.
    • Monitor production costs, efficiency, and productivity to ensure sustainable growth.
    • Participate in Implementing SOPs for production, purchasing, and logistics all operational areas.
    • Lead special projects to achieve operational excellence and innovation.
    • Ensure integration of financial planning with day-to-day operations
  • Team Leadership and People Management
    • Lead and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
    • Support the MD in workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to department heads to develop leadership skills.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to enhance team performance.
  • Business Review
    • Lead management review through regular meetings with the heads of department;
    • Discuss performance, improvements, challenges and escalations;
    • Guide staff to resolve issues and manage continuous improvement
    • Conduct periodic reviews to monitor performance of different business functions;
    • Take corrective measures in case of deviations
    • Review process change requirements
    • Direct team to outline roadmap for change management and implementation
  • Sales, Contracts, and Cash Flow Management
    • Monitor sales performance and coordinate with the sales team to align targets with financial goals.
    • Manage key client relationships, contracts, and credit terms to optimize cash flow.
    • Support the sales in contract negotiations and review financial implications of longterm agreements.
    • Ensure customer satisfaction through consistent product quality and delivery.
    • Oversee adherence to manufacturing, planning and procurement plans as per requirements
    • Support teams to identify priority planning of production in case of critical situations
    • Lead strategy setting and ensure adherence to best practices in supply chain in the industry
    • Conceptualize and guide special projects within technical operations to attain operational excellence 
  • Operations, Procurement, and Logistics
    • Lead the establishment and management of scrap yards for material sourcing.
    • Drive initiatives to source raw materials, such as iron ore, to support production.
    • Optimize logistics and procurement processes to ensure cost-eGiciency and timely delivery.
    • Collaborate with production teams to integrate operational and financial planning.
  • Marketing and Branding
    • Develop and execute marketing strategies to position the company’s products eGectively in the market.
    • Build and maintain a strong brand presence through targeted campaigns and strategic partnerships.
    • Analyze market trends and customer needs to align marketing efforts with business objectives.
  • Compliance and Governance
    • Ensure compliance with Fabrimetal policies, financial audits, and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
    • Implement effective internal controls to safeguard the company’s financial assets.
  • Collaboration with External Stakeholders
    • Build and maintain relationships with financial institutions, suppliers, government bodies and Industry partners
    • Collaborate with industry partners and associations to stay updated on market trends.
    • Represent the company in meetings with key stakeholders when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, HR, Operations, Economics or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • A minimum of at least 5 years in a managerial role within the steel industry or manufacturing sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in African markets.
  • Professional certifications in Project management, operations, or HR are a plus.
  • Strategic mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of steel or Manifactury industry operations and production processes would be prefered.
  • Leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Proven expertise in marketing and branding strategies.
  • Strong French and English language skills; proficiency in local languages is a plus.
  • Experience in HR and labor relations, particularly in factory environments.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, logistics, and scrap yard management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
