Our partners, a leading holding company in the steel industry, it manages multiple subsidiaries across Africa specializing in manufacturing, processing, and distribution. They are currently hiring a Head of Finance for their offices in Senegal. Committed to sustainability, the company transforms scrap metal into high-quality construction materials, supporting infrastructure growth.

The Head of Finance is responsible for oversight of the accounting, local purchase and import procurement functions in the plant. The position is expected to lead financial and sales accounting, fund planning and manage and guide accounting teams in order to ensure accounting activities are conducted accurately and as per prescribed timelines and standards within statutory and organizational guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Fund Management
    • Conduct fund planning on daily, weekly and monthly basis, short term / quarterly cash planning with respect to payables and collections for month
    • Review and analyze the unit’s / regions finance performance, present recommendations and advice to local and group management
  • Finance Operations and Accounting Operations
    • Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including but not limited to financial reporting, credit control, financial analysis, tax, treasury, risk management reporting and legal reporting
    • Prepare monthly consolidated financial reports; financial reports related to budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses etc
    • Prepare and share accounting book for government per prescribed protocols with General Manager for review
    • Issue cheques and seek signature from respective authorities post clearance of payments
    • Liaise with respective vendors in case of issues related to cheques
    • Oversee creation of accounting entries for respective transactions; Make corrections as required
    • Oversee and track cash collection activity; Guide team members on collection and deposits
    • Work with accountants to ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions
    • Oversee purchase of RM registers, medicines, safety items for employees and manage settlement of cash and verify items procured / purchased on a daily basis
    • Oversee daily cash punching, review cash / bank reports generated by finance team on a daily basis
    • Manage payroll processing in coordination with the local HR, conduct / review calculation of salary and review data provided by accountants for deviation
    • Maintain separate record for expats on excel and conduct verification of documented data on Excel
    • Review employee expense claims and take decisions on necessary approvals
  • Sales Operations
    • Receive and understand requirements from customers
    • Communicate customer requirements to production team and prepare the Sales Plan in alignment with the manufacturing plan
    • Manage importation process, and assume responsibility of decision making on prices in coordination with Head of Sales and Marketing
    • Coordinate with logistics team and ensure timely delivery and follow up with customer with respect to payments
    • Identify cases of overdue and any other escalations (No deviation on payment from customer for DRC)
  • MIS and Audit
    • Review / prepare MIS on a monthly basis
    • Conduct budget Vs actual analysis
    • Identify negative variance and conduct root cause analysis to understand issues
    • Share findings with GM and identify actions for mitigation
    • Interface and communicate with auditors to provide required information and resolve queries, as required
    • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders for internal / external audit and due diligence
  • People & Culture
    • Oversee the deployment of the people philosophy for the department, in alignment with overall organizational culture strategy and values.
    • Empower individuals and team, providing support/guidance to ensure yearly plans and targets are achieved.
    • Manage effective resource allocation, and drive higher team engagement through appropriate People and Culture interventions.
    • Support daily People & Culture priorities, activities and responsibilities
    • Review and approve staffing requirements, vacation requests & conduct interviews as require
    • Support training initiatives, both personal and professional, as well as mandatory training as identified by the P&C Department
    • Supervise, coach and mentor all talents to enhance the capability of team members
    • Oversee and participate in Performance Management, ensuring proper accountability and documentation
    • Participate in management development programmes as and when required
Qualifications
  • Graduate in Finance / CA or any other relevant degree
  • Overall experience of 10+ years in Finance in the manufacturing industry
  • Understanding of financial operation practices in the steel manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge with financial activities - salary processing, cash collection, accounting / book management
  • Knowledge with sales process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP and other IT tools
  • Proficient in local language and English or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
