A leading electro-mechanical solution provider in Nigeria is currently hiring a Head of UPS Systems.

 

Job Description:

 

The Head of Department (HOD) for UPS Systems will be responsible for the leadership, management, and optimization of all UPS sales and operations. The HOD will lead a team of sales, engineers and technicians, ensuring that all UPS systems are operating efficiently, meet regulatory standards, and align with the organization’s strategic goals, especially in industries where uninterrupted power is crucial (e.g., data centers, healthcare, industrial operations).

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Lead and direct the UPS Systems Department, setting strategic goals and objectives for the management and expansion of UPS infrastructure. Develop and implement departmental strategies that align with the organizations overall power reliability goals.
  • Oversee the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all UPS systems across the organization, ensuring that they perform optimally and deliver reliable power during outages. Implement predictive and preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Manage the design, selection, and installation of new UPS systems for various business units or projects. Ensure systems are designed to meet both current and future power requirements, and integrate seamlessly into the overall electrical infrastructure.
  • Continuously assess and improve the performance of existing UPS systems. Evaluate energy efficiency, operational costs, and system capacity to implement improvements, upgrades, or replacement when necessary.
  • Provide leadership and expertise in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with UPS systems. Coordinate emergency response for critical failures, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
  • Ensure all UPS systems and associated equipment comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and local or international codes. Foster a culture of safety and ensure the team adheres to best practices in handling and operating high-voltage and critical power systems.
  • Manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff. Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance technical expertise and ensure the team remains at the forefront of
  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget, focusing on cost-effective procurement of UPS systems and components, as well as efficient operational and maintenance procedures. Monitor expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Lead projects related to the upgrade, expansion, or replacement of UPS infrastructure. Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget, while meeting all technical requirements and safety standards.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors involved in the provision of UPS systems, equipment, and services. Negotiate contracts and oversee service-level agreements (SLAs) to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Deep understanding of UPS technologies, including both traditional lead-acid and lithium-ion battery-based systems, as well as associated electrical and mechanical systems. Knowledge of UPS design, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

 

  • A bachelors degree in electrical engineering, electronics, Power Systems, or a related field. A Master’s degree or specialized certifications in power systems or UPS technologies is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the power systems industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role focusing on UPS systems, critical power infrastructure, or similar technologies.
  • Deep understanding of UPS technologies, including both traditional lead-acid and lithium-ion battery-based systems, as well as associated electrical and mechanical systems. Knowledge of UPS design, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians. Proven track record in managing technical teams and ensuring high levels of operational performance.
  • Strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex system issues, making strategic decisions on system upgrades, and implementing effective solutions in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in managing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with senior management, stakeholders, clients, and vendors. Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with national and international standards for UPS systems, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to manage departmental budgets, prioritize investments, and optimize costs without compromising on system reliability or performance.
  • Strong focus on meeting customer needs, particularly for critical power solutions, and ensuring the continuity of operations in mission-critical environments.
